Event Details:
A ReIMAGINE Tribe is an experimental group practice in following the way of Jesus. Tribes are made up of people who commit to common vows and rhythms, practiced in community, to facilitate spiritual formation and transformation in their lives. Our tribe season begins in September and concludes in May, (though people may join at any point in the year). Tribes currently meet on Thursday evenings.
Structure: In San Francisco there are currently two Tribes- one that meets primarily in the Mission District, and another on the west side of the City (“Richmond/Sunset”). Tribes are led by two leaders who receive training and coaching from ReIMAGINE! Many, but not necessarily all Tribe participants have undertaken to live by a set of seven vows inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus: love, obedience, prayer, simplicity, creativity, service, and community. The Tribe rhythm of the year rotates around paying attention to these seven vows.
Time Commitment: Tribes meet weekly to remember and practice the teachings of Jesus. Each week we are either taking part in a “learning lab” (a four week workshop or project focused on one of the vows), or hanging out together, (typically sharing a meal and the Lord’s table, praying, applying Scripture, caring for one another, or identifying and planning actions to serve and transform our neighborhoods). There are also 2-3 overnight retreats per year that Tribe Members are encouraged to participate in.
Financial Commitment: Each Tribe Member contributes to a Tribe “pot” from which the Tribe pays for things that fall under three basic categories: community, benevolence & missional activity. Vowed members commit to giving 5 % of their income to ReIMAGINE Tribes and 5% to the charities of their choice. Tribe Members make decisions about how to spend their Tribe “pot,”according to guidelines that include prayer, discussion and voting on spending proposals.
How to Jump In: If you are interested in joining a Tribe, we enthusiastically encourage you to check us out! Most people start by participating in a learning lab so they can meet Tribe Members and experience the ReIMAGINE way of doing things. But if you want to jump right into a Tribe, plan on visiting the Mission and/or Richmond Tribes to get a feel for which one will be the best fit.
