"My faith does not call me to be a Republican or Democrat. My faith calls me to love God, and love my neighbor as I love myself. It is the conditions on the ground and in our political situation that is calling me to dislodge control of Congress from Republican control. It is my belief in the good news of God that compels me to use my vote as a tool to bring about the common good for all people. And, restraining this administration is a clear and present action I am compelled to take as a Christian."

The Ninefold Path of Jesus

The Ninefold Path of Jesus

St. Matthew's Church (map)

Signs of haunting are all around us. The gap widens between the poor and the rich. Conflict rages between groups and nations. Due to our actions, even the future of the planet is threatened. If we aren't disturbed then we haven't been paying attention.

What if the Beatitudes contain the keys to our liberation— a nine statement manifesto of a new way of thinking and being that can change our lives and our world?

During this interactive evening workshop we will explore the revolutionary invitation of the Beatitudes. Each participant will receive a complimentary copy of The Ninefold Path Notebook. Other tools and resources will be made available for leading a Ninefold Path Beatitudes journey with others.

Facilitated by Mark Scandrette and a local team of collaborators.

Mark Scandrette is an internationally recognized expert in practical Christian spirituality. He is the cofounder of Reimagine, a center for integral Christian practice. His most recent books include Free, Practicing the Way of Jesus, Belonging and Becoming, and The Ninefold Path Notebook. In addition to leading retreats and workshops for leaders and teams around the world, Mark teaches in the Doctoral program at Fuller Seminary. He is on the creative team for the 9 Beats Collective, an international project exploring the beatitudes as a 21st vocabulary for the living way of Jesus. He lives with his family in San Francisco.

In partnership with Lifewords, a UK based Bible agency.

RISK EVERYTHING: Practicing the Way of Jesus

RISK EVERYTHING: Practicing the Way of Jesus

Elmdom Church (map)

This year at the National Youth Ministry Weekend we are creating a fantastic opportunity to start your event journey early by reconnecting to the call of Jesus that underpins our work and our life.

In addition to the main weekend, this year we’re hosting a Retreat Day with the phenomenal Mark Scandrette, who has been developing experimental and contemplative Christian practices for two decades.

So many of us want to live in the way of Jesus—pursuing a life that is deeply soulful, connected to real needs and good news to our world. Yet too often our methods of spiritual formation are individualistic, information driven or disconnected from the details of every day life. If Jesus of Nazareth demonstrated and taught a revolutionary way of love that is actually possible, alive with healing and hope, then we need a path for experiencing that revolution in the details of our every day lives. Perhaps what we need is more like a karate studio than a college lecture, shared spaces where we can take new risks to practice the way of Jesus together.  Mark Scandrette

Come to the NYMW early, and take some risks that will allow you to more actively put the teachings of Christ into the heart of your own walk and work.

In this one day workshop retreat we will:

  • Consider how the gospel compels us to take new risks.

  • Engage the dynamics of group experiments through hands on learning.

  • Explore how to integrate group experiments and practices in your life and youth work.

The day will run from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

It is a full programme that will flow throughout this time based on Mark’s book Practicing the Way of Jesus, Life Together in the Kingdom of Love.

Tickets for this stand-alone event are £38 for the day including lunch, refreshments and a copy of Practicing the Way of Jesus: Life Together in the Kingdom of Love.
